OTTAWA – Shawn Simpson, Former professional ice hockey player and popular TSN 1200 radio personality, has died at the age of 56.
Shawn’s tragic death by suicide on January 29, 2025, has left the Ottawa sports community and his many fans in mourning. Born on August 10, 1968, Simpson had a remarkable career both on and off the ice. As a talented goaltender, he gained recognition early in his career, leading to his selection in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.
Although his NHL career didn’t unfold as expected, Simpson played in various professional leagues before transitioning into hockey operations. He later took on front-office roles with the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs, contributing to team management and scouting efforts. His deep knowledge of the game made him a key figure behind the scenes in player development.
His passing is a significant loss to the hockey world, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
