Denzel Irvin Obituary, Foundation Academy – t is with deep sorrow that we report the passing of Coach Denzel Irvin, a beloved member of the Foundation Academy family. On Sunday, December 22, 2024, Coach Irvin passed away due to heart complications, leaving a void that will be felt deeply by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless students whose lives he touched.

“Coach Irvin was more than just a coach; he was a mentor, a role model, and an irreplaceable part of our community,” school officials shared in a heartfelt statement. “His loss is an indescribable one, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.”

Coach Irvin’s journey with Foundation Academy began during his junior year as a student and athlete. His passion for sports and his strong faith left an enduring mark on the school, and those who knew him then spoke of his dedication and leadership, qualities that would shape the course of his life. After graduating, Irvin returned to Foundation Academy, this time as a coach and mentor. His commitment to helping others, both on and off the field, became the cornerstone of his career. Through his leadership, he embodied the values of grace, faith, and compassion, inspiring those around him.

“His belief in the power of faith, hard work, and perseverance touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” school officials continued. “Coach Irvin’s influence extended far beyond the football field.”

Irvin’s impact was not limited to his coaching. In addition to his work at Foundation Academy, he founded Get Active Performance Training, a business aimed at training and developing future football stars. He also drew inspiration from his personal experiences as a heart transplant recipient, using his story to motivate and uplift others.

In March 2022, Irvin fell ill with symptoms that were initially thought to be COVID-19. However, within days, it became clear that his heart was failing. After a month of uncertainty, on April 26, 2022, Irvin received a new heart. His transplant was a success, and by September of that year, he returned to Winter Garden and resumed his role as a defensive backs coach at Foundation Academy.

“Through everything he went through, he remained a beacon of hope and strength,” school officials remarked. “His recovery was nothing short of miraculous, and he used that experience to share a message of faith and perseverance with his students.”

In March 2024, reflecting on his journey, Irvin shared, “What I went through was a modern-day miracle. People who hear my story, even if they don’t believe, they wonder if God is real, because man couldn’t have done that. It’s been rewarding to see God’s grace and power through my story, helping others.”

Coach Irvin was not just a mentor and leader to his students—he was also a devoted father. He leaves behind two young daughters: Maya, age 8, and Kehlani, just 6 months old. His love and devotion to his children were evident to everyone who knew him, and their futures were always at the forefront of his heart.

Foundation Academy is mourning the loss of a cherished alumni and coach whose legacy will endure through the lives he impacted. To support his young daughters, a fund has been established in Irvin’s memory.

As the school community grieves, they also honor the lasting contributions Coach Denzel Irvin made to the school, his players, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was one of grace, faith, and boundless compassion—a life that will continue to inspire for years to come.
